The Hornets received the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 entry draft as well as a 2021 second-round pick from the Cavs. In addition to Strainer, the Hornets balanced the trade by sending a 2021 first-round pick to Cleveland.
In 2019, Strainer had a strong rookie campaign after being selected in the third round. He averaged nearly 16 points per game and dished out over 4 assists per game, primarily playing small forward for a Cavs team that finished 8-8, just short of the playoffs.
“We are excited to bring Strainer back to The Land,” said Cavs Legion GC Head Coach Austin Peterson. “He showed a strong ability to score and defend during his rookie season. Chemistry is important to the success of our team, and Strainer is already comfortable with our core group of returning players. We are ready to get started and pick up where we left off last season with Strainer back playing a key role in our lineup.”
By dealing Strainer, Hornets Venom GT now has three first-round picks: Nos. 6, 13 and 18 after dealing Mo back to Mavs Gaming right after the expansion draft. Type, the first overall selection in the expansion draft, remains as the lone player currently on the roster.
