The NBA 2K League has decided on several particulars pertaining to the September 26 expansion draft and player retention, league sources told DIMER.
The league will conduct the expansion draft in a conference call format, similar to the MLB’s entry draft format.
The draft itself will be streamed live on the NBA 2K League’s Twitch channel with announcements also broadcasted on Twitter at 6 p.m. EST on the 26th.
Each expansion team will have three minutes of “pick-clock” to make their selection.
Popular analyst DirK, who announced that he would not take a team job for the upcoming season, will work the draft. Color commentator and analyst Phil Visu will be alongside him on draft day.
In player retention news (players protected by teams after the expansion draft), teams seem likely to have to finalize their player retentions by the end of the first trade window, October 10th. The initial deadline was October 8, but since the league pushed back the expansion draft and trade window by two days it’s essentially certain that the player retention deadline follows suit.
