Mavs Gaming’s RuxGT broke his hand after the team’s first-round loss in the Ticket tournament on Friday and Grant Monster will start in his place, the team announced Wednesday.
The team announced that Rux underwent surgery to repair the hand and will be out indefinitely. The power forward sustained the injury after the team left the stage following an upset 65-63 loss to Knicks Gaming. Rux missed a last-second potential game-winner as the second-seeded Mavs were eliminated in the first round by the No. 18 seed.
With the injury, fourth-round pick Grant Monster is expected to start going forward, and he will certainly start against Warriors Gaming Squad Wednesday night. In 2018, Grant Monster (then using the handle Gbark2k) was one of the league’s top sharpshooters for Blazer5 Gaming.
Drafted by the Mavs in the third round of the 2019 entry draft, Rux has started every game of the season so far. He’s averaging 9.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in the regular season on 60% shooting from the field and 56% accuracy from beyond the arc. Rux played for Pistons GT in the 2018 season but was unretained in the offseason.
The Mavs, 10-1, are in prime position to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. They play Warriors Gaming Squad and Celtics Crossover Gaming in week 9.
