Mavs Gaming has hired Toijuin Fairley as its NBA 2K League head coach, league sources tell DIMER.
UPDATE: Fairley and the team confirmed on November 8 that he had been hired as head coach.
Fairley, known in the NBA 2K community as “LT,” is the co-owner and creator of the famed MPBA Pro-Am league. He, along with now-Nets Gaming Crew consultant Ivan Curtiss, served as draft analysts for Bucks Gaming for the 2018 draft.
Mavs Gaming finished a disappointing campaign in 2018 without making the playoffs. The team selected DatBoyDimez with the first overall pick in the 2018 draft, and started out strong before enduring a losing streak that sank the team’s playoff hopes. They protected Dimez and Dayfri from the expansion draft before trading Dayfri to Wizards DG for the 14th overall pick, complementing their own 5th overall pick.
The Mavs underwent serious changes in personnel over the course of the season. Roger Caneda departed the organization for a position with the Philadelphia Fusion of the Overwatch League in the middle of the season. Coach Jonah Edwards stepped down after the season; he’s likely to be hired elsewhere for season 2. The organization hired Trey Christensen as its Director of Esports (or General Manager of Mavs Gaming) and Jonathan Miller as its Esports Marketing Manager.
