“When presented with the chance to join the NBA 2K League for its inaugural season, we saw it as a compelling opportunity to continue expanding our presence into the esports industry,” said Jordan Solomon, executive vice president, MSG Sports in the press release. “We look forward to connecting with new fans through our Knicks Gaming digital channels and growing the Knicks Gaming brand in New York City.”
The bigger news, however, came from the hiring of new Head Scout and Creative Consultant Jerry Ferrara, of Entourage fame.
Suffice to say the decision has been met so far with mixed reviews. Some players seem excited at the prospect of a Hollywood star joining the ranks of the League, while others question his credentials to scout 2K players. A couple of NBA 2K League managers seem to have reacted to the hiring with surprise and, uh, something, though these could have been reactions to the FCC repeal of Net Neutrality.
Ferrara himself seems plenty excited about the opportunity.
