Hornets Venom GT has named Lawrence “Biggwest” West as general manager and head coach, the team announced this morning.
West becomes the expansion team’s first-ever coach and general manager after spending last year with 2019 expansion team Hawks Talon GC as a special adviser. Before joining the Hawks, West was one of the original leaders of the My Player Basketball Association (MPBA) alongside current NBA 2K League coaches Toijuin “LT” Fairley (Mavs Gaming) and Ivan “OGKINGCURT” Curtiss (NetsGC). He also ran the National Amateur Pro-Am Exposure platform.
The Hornets became the first 2020 expansion team to join the NBA 2K League, and recently revealed their team logo and branding. West and the team will select the franchise’s first-ever players in the 2019 expansion draft, the date of which is still to be determined.
No other teams have yet been announced as joining the league; last year’s four expansion teams were announced in August, with the expansion draft held in late September.
Hornets Venom is reportedly expected to reveal at least one more hire in the coming weeks.
