Dellarciprete was drafted by Pistons GT in the second round of the inaugural NBA 2K League draft and retained by the team following season one, but went unretained after two seasons with the team.
The versatile wing player becomes the first player-turned-coach in NBA 2K League history.
“I take a lot of pride in being the first [NBA 2K League] player turned coach, and I’m excited to bring my years of knowledge and experience in NBA 2K to the Lakers organization,” he posted on Twitter following the announcement. “I look forward to this next chapter in my life and career. Season 3 can’t come soon enough!”
Dellarciprete assumes the current roster with longtime Pro-Am teammate Mootyy, Vert and Kev. Lakers Gaming also has the 7th overall pick in this year’s entry draft.
The team had an underwhelming inaugural season, finishing bottom-two in the league with a 3-13 record. Matt Makovic helmed the squad as general manager and head coach for season two, before opening up the coaching position in October.
