In another unsurprising coaching extension, Celtics Crossover Gaming announced that it has re-signed head coach Ricco Phinisee for season two.
“I’m excited to be back and to continue the main goal of building a dynasty here in Boston,” Phinisee told DIMER.
Although the Celtics just missed the playoffs, Ricco led the team to two in-the-money title game appearances in consecutive mid-season tournaments. He instituted a distribution-focused offense that had the Celtics playing a high-scoring, fun-to-watch system. The team’s first-round pick, Fab, led the league in assists by a wide margin and gelled well with Phinisee.
Mel East, whom the Celtics protected for season 2 alongside Fab, said:
“I’m super excited to be with coach Ricco for another season. He’s the Brad Stevens of the NBA 2K League. His work ethic is second to none, and I’ve had plenty of coaches in my life. Love them all but this coach is a different breed.
I’m blessed to call him family. His IQ of the game is off the charts and the way he coaches is phenomenal and is highly respected. I know CLTX Gaming and our fans are excited, and they very much should be! We got a guy with legendary work ethic who pushes his players and the people around him for greatness.
I CAN’T WAIT!!!!”
