Just two games on tap tonight for the NBA 2K League after two postponements, one in each of the 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. slots. The Nets will look to continue their momentum while the Celtics hope for a repeat of history, while the Pistons and Grizz fight to keep clawing out of the basement.
Tonight’s games are viewable on ESPN.com and the ESPN app, as well as the league’s Twitch and YouTube channels.
NetsGC (2-1) vs. Celtics Crossover Gaming (0-4), 7 p.m.
NetsGC finds itself at 2-1 after a solid start to the week, knocking off Heat Check last night and Magic Gaming on Monday. Choc has been a bucket since game one, averaging 36 points per game while leading a potent offensive attack. A key component to that attack is having a talented off-ball scorer in Chess, who is coming into his own on the league build. Shuttles has inserted himself in the conversation of top big men, averaging a light 16 points and 17 rebounds per game against the Heat. Tonight, they’ll square off against a struggling, but still experienced, Celtics Crossover squad.
This wasn’t the beginning to the season oFab and co. envisioned. Winless through four series, and after falling to an 0-8 Lakers team, Boston needs to find answers quickly. They’ve tried shuffling the lineup, with MelEast moving back to lock, and TooCool coming off the bench to man the center position, but no wins to show for it so far. Fab believes the team is playing good offense, as any team led by Fab would, but that their defense has been achilles heel during their young season. Boston will have on opportunity to address their defensive woes against NetsGC tonight.
Ironically, Boston has literally been here before. The Celtics opened the 2019 season 0-4 before starting to build momentum (eventually making the playoffs) with a win over NetsGC. Can they make the same move this year?
Key Matchup: Momentum vs. 0-for
Besides dropping a close series to Mavs Gaming, NetsGC has had an excellent start to their season, building momentum leading up to this game. Celtics Crossover, as we mentioned above, have negative momentum going for them. Will the hot team stay hot, or can Boston garner some momentum of their own?
Grizz Gaming (2-4) vs. Pistons GT (1-4), 9 p.m.
Pistons GT has now lost consecutive series, including last week’s loss to the Pacers and a defe Cavs Legion last night. Their offense is flat-out stagnant at times, as the team scored just 13 points or fewer in four out of eight quarters yesterday. Whether it’s been LykaPro or DemonJT running point guard, the team hasn’t been able to put it together consistently. to consistently put it together. After a strong debut on the three-level playmaker for Ramo, his shooting fell off against Cleveland, as the power forward shot just 38% from the field. Unfortunately for the Pistons, they’re clashing with a Memphis team that has discovered some momentum in recent days.
Grizz Gaming is back (?). Vandi and Goofy look like everything the Memphis front office dreamed of and sought to make a reality in the offseason. In the Grizz’s win against Boston, Goofy outrebounded opposing center TooCool 42-28 and limited the Celtics big man to single digit boards in two out of three contests. Vandi averaged a cool 31 points and 9 assists per game in the same series, vaulting this duo into the upper-echelon of duos. If these two continue to play at a high level, at the most important positions in the league, this Memphis team could wind up surprising some people.
Key Matchup: Pistons vs. Themselves
It feels as if the Pistons are constantly shooting themselves in the foot, making unforced errors and creating opportunities for the opposing team. If Detroit continues to do so, Grizz Gaming should breeze through this matchup. If the Pistons can correct some of those mistakes, maybe their season turnaround begins tonight.
