Hornets Venom GT and Heat Check Gaming completed a pick swap ahead of the 2020 entry draft, the teams announced today. Heat Check Gaming received the 13th overall and 48th overall picks for Saturday’s draft while Hornets Venom GT received the 19th and 28th overall picks.
Heat Check Gaming moves up its second selection with the trade, and now holds the 13th pick—originally acquired by the Hornets from Cavs Legion GC in exchange for Strainer—as well as the 8th pick in the first round of the draft. The 48th overall pick it also received in the deal will be in the third round.
“My goal coming into this draft with five picks was to have flexibility to make a move if I thought it positioned me better heading into Saturday,” Heat Check Gaming Head Coach and General Manager Derric “Famous Enough” Franklin said in a statement issued by the team.
Heat Check Gaming nearly cleared house this offseason, keeping only Hotshot on its roster heading into the draft. The team also has the 41st overall pick in the draft.
Hornets Venom GT also controls the 6th and 18th picks in the first round along with the 19th pick, which was originally Blazer5 Gaming’s before the team traded it to Miami for Majes7ic. The 28th overall pick is a second-rounder, giving the team four draft picks in the top 30. It also controls the 55th pick in the draft.
The team selected Type in the expansion draft ahead of its inaugural season.
It is the first picks-for-picks swap officially completed in NBA 2K League history.
