Cavs Legion GC has hired Austin Peterson as its head coach, the team announced Monday.
Peterson currently serves as the Video Coordinator for the Canton Charge, the G-League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers. In his head coach role, Peterson will oversee the team’s day-to-day practice routine and schedule. He’ll also be tasked with enhancing player performance and strategy, as well as the team health and wellness program.
Last season, Cavs Legion GM Anthony Muraco served in a temporary capacity as head coach as Cavs Legion GC went 8-6, qualifying for the playoffs. The team defeated Raptors Uprising GC in the first round before losing to eventual champion Knicks Gaming 2-1 in the semifinals.
“We added a wealth of basketball knowledge to the Cavs Legion team today with the addition of
Coach Peterson,” said Muraco. “His past experiences around the game of basketball, exemplary leadership skills and passion for NBA 2K make him the perfect fit for our team. We’re proud to utilize some of our own in-house talent to help grow Legion and compete for NBA 2K League championships.”
Peterson, a Northeast Ohio native, graduated from Baldwin Wallace College with a degree in Sports Management. After graduation, he interned with the Charlotte Hornets Basketball Operations team before being hired by the Canton Charge.
Cavs Legion has three picks, including the No. 18 overall selection, in March 5’s entry draft. The team protected Sick x 973 from expansion and traded Hood to T-Wolves Gaming in exchange for oLarry, the former Bucks GG player who was the third pick in the expansion draft. The team also retained Godddof2k at the cost of a second-round pick.
