In an attempt to shine a light on some of the better players in the NBA2K community, the NAPX staff has decided to choose an exceptional player from one of the various Pro-Am teams. For today, the NAPX staff had the opportunity to sit down with KingHavoc, who touches on his past Pro-Am successes and his hopes for a spot in the NBA 2K League.
NAPx: Let’s get started. A love for gaming is the one thing that everyone in the NBA 2K community has in common. What were some of the games that developed your love for gaming, and why?
Havoc: I knew Rushz & Shadowz since Xbox 360 we met playing in 1v1 leagues in 2K. I also played in Team Up leagues with them and with other friends. We played Pro-Am in NBA 2K16, but not competitively. Once NBA 2K17 came out and we heard about the $250,000 RTTASG Tournament, we competed in it for one week.
In our first MPBA event we beat Island Gang in the first round and then beat Throwdown in the finals. From then on, our names got out there.
NAPx: Tell us a little about yourself.
Havoc: I am from Queens, New York, born in Brooklyn. I played basketball for top AAU programs growing up. I played until I was injured in college. I play NBA 2K in my free time and I wish to make the NBA 2K League. My basketball IQ is high and it shows in 2K with my decision-making at point guard. The passes I make as well as the defensive rotations I do during games are examples of my great decision making.
NAPx: You’ve had some big games and big wins so far already in 2K19. In which game do you feel you had your best performance?
Havoc: My first Comp game on this NBA 2K is my best so far. Playing against NBA 2K League players with my guys we felt like we had something to prove.
NAPx: Despite having crazy combine stats last year, you were somehow not picked for the 102. What motivates you to try again?
Havoc: I felt like I was snubbed, because every guard who had been in an MPBA Finals event on NBA 2K18 before the draft was selected in the final 250 players besides me. I know my talent and I feel I should be in the NBA 2K League. I feel I am top 10 at every position.
NAPx: With Lockdowns playing a big role this year, who do you feel has given you the most trouble as an opposing lock, if any?
Havoc: Every lock to be honest, but the locks that give me the most trouble are BLPA BigRim and iBall x Sleaz. They harass the ball handlers all game, and it drains your stamina which can be crucial in late game situations
NAPx: I assume the ultimate goal is making the NBA 2K League this year. What do you feel you bring to the table for a NBA 2K League team, and why should you be drafted? What drives you to make the league and what would being drafted mean to you?
Havoc: I bring everything to the table. I can play any position. It would mean everything to me; I’ve worked hard for this the last couple of years.
NAPx: Which NBA 2K League team do you feel you would be a best fit for currently, and why?
Havoc: Any, to be honest—I’m versatile enough to play any position
NAPx: Do you think your team can compete with anyone? What can we expect from PTP?
Havoc: Yes, we can compete with anyone. We’ve won plenty of tournaments and leagues. You can expect us to be in the mix of being a top team and being a championship contender in any WR or MPBA event.
NAPx: Who is your favorite player and team to matchup against, and why?
Havoc: Playing against Slight Work and matching up against Fab. They have been the best team on Xbox the last two years. I hope to dominate with my team like that soon.
NAPx: Thank you for your time!
Havoc: No problem, thanks!
