Lakers Gaming has acquired Vert from Warriors Gaming Squad in exchange for the Lakers’ first-round pick (tenth overall) in the NBA 2K League expansion draft, league sources tell DIMER.
There’s more to the move than that exchange. Vert, left unprotected by Warriors Gaming Squad in the initial round of player protections, will have to be retained before the transaction can go through. That will cost the Warriors a second-round pick, since no WGS player was selected in the expansion draft.
Vert went unselected in the expansion draft despite high expectations. The leading available scorer in expansion, Vert proved a talented presence down low and played multiple positions for Warriors Gaming Squad, which finished the regular season 4-10.
He’ll join Mootyy (formerly of Kings Guard Gaming) and KontuL (Magic Gaming), whom Lakers Gaming selected fourth and fifth overall, respectively, in the expansion draft.
Warriors Gaming Squad will now have the second and tenth overall picks in the 2019 NBA 2K League entry draft.
